Kirby: The United States does not have a “full view” of American detainees
National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said Sunday that the United States is not sure where Hamas is holding any remaining Americans or what their conditions are.
Kirby said, when asked what the United States knows about the detainees, in statements reported by the American newspaper “The Hill”: “Well, especially for the Americans, we think the number is about eight, and we do not have a perfect view of the whereabouts of all of them. We certainly do not have "An ideal view of their physical or mental condition. We're trying to do that as best we can, but they're about eight, and now we also think the total number remaining is about 140 people."
In another context, Kirby said that the United States would do “the same thing” as Israel if it was attacked, as happened with Israel on October 7, stressing that Israel has the right to defend itself in the wake of the attack launched by the Palestinian factions.
