Despite the fame and success of the movie The Exorcist, it certainly did not escape those who doubted its author, William Blatty’s claim

The Exorcist movie...the true story...Part 2

As we said previously, the author’s sources were secondary. He did not meet the boy Ronald nor anyone from his family, and the priests’ statements were conflicting about the truth of what happened. For example, there is absolutely nothing to prove that Father Hughes performed a ritual to expel the evil spirit from the boy’s body at Georgetown University Hospital, and there is nothing in the hospital records to prove that Father Hughes was injured during that ritual and received treatment.
Father Halloran, who was one of the three priests who conducted the boy's final exorcism sessions, said that he did not see anything out of the ordinary during those sessions: no furniture moving on its own, no utensils flying in the air, and no signs and mysterious writings appearing and disappearing on the boy's body... in fact. The boy was crying, screaming, and vomiting sometimes, and these are all normal things that can be explained. As for the frightening tone and hoarse voice, Father Halloran was certain that the boy was capable of making such sounds himself. As for the Latin words that they claimed the boy was cursing and cursing, Father Halloran believed that the boy was repeating the words that Father Budern used to repeat while reciting religious texts. American journalist Mark Opsasnick was one of the most ardent skeptics about the story of the boy Ronald. He conducted his own investigations into the case, and ultimately concluded that Ronald was just a teenage boy going through a critical stage in his life, and that he brilliantly played the role of the possessed person to attract attention to him. What was rumored about his supernatural abilities were exaggerations and myths exaggerated by people, and there is absolutely nothing to prove that they happened. Psychiatrists also have an opinion on the case, as they believe that all of the boy Ronald’s actions can be scientifically explained and that his entire condition is nothing more than a psychological condition. In general, and whatever the truth of the story, the movie “The Exorcist” remains a wonderful work that deserves to be watched...but beware of watching it alone.
